Congratulations to Linda Cozakos from Burbank, CA and Adam Ostegard
currently residing in Shanghai, China
on winning the 2016 Design Contest with their entry titled "Vacation
Adventure". This is Linda's 1st winning entry and Adam's 3rd
winning entry. Adam's past floats include 2007's "Free
Dog Wash" and 2009's "3D Double Feature".
Their entry will represent the City of Burbank's 84th entry into the
127th annual Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1st,
2016 with the parade themed "Find Your Adventure". |

On March 7 and 14, 2015 two open
brainstorming sessions were held to help determine how to take the
concept drawing and turn it into a float. Above are some of the
notes taken during these meetings. |
|
|
During the brainstorming meetings the
group decided to place the car and trailer going over a bridge along
with adding various nature elements. |
|
On May 1, 2015 the final black and white line drawing
was completed and released. From here colors will be selected and
a final color rendering created. |
|
On May 7, 2015 the color rendering was released.
The next step is to select the final float title, which will be at the
General Meeting on Thursday, May 21, 2015. Then the color
rendering will be updated with "City of Burbank" and the float title. |
On May 15, 2015 additional details were added to the color
rendering. |
|
On Thursday, May 21, 2015 the General Membership
picked "Are We There Yet?" as the new float title.
The General Membership reviewed and voted on
approximately 80 proposed float title names.
It is the end of summer and school is right around
the corner, so the Raccoon Family has set out on a last minute vacation.
Not sure where they are going or what they plan to do, they are racing
out of town to find an adventure.
The next step is to update the Color Rendering and obtain Pasadena
Tournament of Roses Association's approvals. |
|
The final Color Rendering (above). |
Now that the color rendering is completed, additional detail
drawings are created to help the Construction crew determine size and
location of all the float elements. This drawing on the right was from
June 5, 2015. On June 18, 2015 we received approval from
Pasadena Tournament of Roses to officially change the float's title to
"Are We There Yet?" |
|
|
|
Now that the Color Rendering is completed, additional
drawings and details are worked on to show those items that can not be
displayed on the rendering, such as the back of the float or the
"off-camera" (left) side of the float. We are planning on putting a
Moose in the water, similar to where the Bear is on the camera-side of
the float. We are also planning on putting a sleeping bear at the
back of the float.
The above drawings show some of the proposed modifications. |
|
The picture to the left shows the "off-camera" or left
side of the float. |
On August 13, 2015 new detailed character drawings
were released to help properly create the characters to scale. |

On August 13, 2015 additional detailed
drawings were released... |
