Theme: MOOSIC MOOSIC MOOOSIC How/Why
was this theme chosen? The Burbank Tournament of Roses Association holds an
annual worldwide open design contest each year. Submitted designs are screened for theme, building and
decorating possibilities. Members vote on which design to build. MOOSIC MOOSIC MOOOSIC
tells a story most appropriate to this parade theme. How
does your theme relate to Parade theme? Music has always been a part of herd tending.
It helps keep the animals (critters) calm, placid, serene.
Music can be energizing, emotional, soothing.
Consider any Western you have ever seen – cowboys sing to the herds on
the cattle drives. Significance
of theme to the Participant: One of the only floats that allows children from age
5 to participate, we encourage and provide opportunities for hands on
experience. They see “their

Description: High on his horse, 6-string in his hands, this bronco
ridin’ balladeer is wanderin’ the deserts, keepin’ an eye on the herd and
fillin’ the valley with song. And
while the cows munch and moo, it looks like the resident prairie dogs have
gotten the attention of this cowpoke’s trusty hound! Concept:
Bronco riding balladeer keeping an eye on the herd and filling the valley
with song. Construction height: 25’ Construction
width: 18’ Construction length: 48’ Flowering
Details (Names/Significance of the Flowers/Dry Materials Used): Where
the flowers will be used and for what effect: The bronco ridin’ cowboy clad in a silverleaf hat, marigold bandana and statice blue
jeans sits on his palomino horse of
butterscotch strawflower with white pampas grass mane and tail Cows
of white cushion poms with spots of Terra Cotta roses munch the myriad of native
grasses, sunflowers, kangaroo paws, gerbera daisies and star gazer lilies on the
plateaus. The towering sides of the butte are formed of red lentil, safflower, annatto seed, yellow
peas, millet, purple statice and
roses (Gipsy Curiosa, Tequila, Orange Unique, Blue Curiosa and Corvette). Please
estimate the number of flowers used by type: Roses: 2500 Terra Cotta
roses will form the spots in the cows. Roses: 15,000
various roses (Gipsy Curiosa, Tequila, Orange Unique, Blue Curiosa and Corvette)
will be used in the Buttes and plateaus. Gerberas:

animation system. The horse and
cowboy will flip upside down parallel to the butte.
Mouths and tails of all three cows are animated and the prairie dogs pop
up to peer at the parade viewers. Innovations
used in building this float: The
float has two main engines, one for driving the float and one for running the
animation and sound system. Both
engines have been converted to cleaner burning Propane fuel.

event/parade participation: Burbank Tournament of Roses Association enters a
“floatlet” (mini-float) in Burbank on Parade, a community spirit parade held
each Spring. Association members conceive, build and decorate a “floatlet”
fitting the parade theme. We
have won several awards, including President’s Trophy for best depiction of
parade theme. Participating
organization information: This is
one of six “self-built” floats in the parade, designed, constructed and
decorated entirely by volunteers. The
Burbank Tournament of Roses Association is a year-round organization, composed
entirely of volunteers, that designs, builds and decorates the City of Burbank
entry into the annual Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade. The float is built
and decorated in Burbank Water and Power Department yard. Special
interest information (unique information about decorators, etc): A group of dedicated in-house volunteer carvers
contribute their time and talent sculpting foam to create a natural appearance
of the cowpoke and the cartoon cow heads. Opportunities to build and decorate extend to
residents and visitors of Burbank and surrounding communities, from children to
seniors. Among participants are
scout groups, community service groups, school-to-career groups, and high school
clubs. Our designers, Jennifer Edward and TaMara
Carlson-Woodard are Burbank residents and active Association members.
