A loveable pup of bulgar with spots of cocoa palm fiber, pampas
grass and uva grass flies a fantasy rocket of 1,500 red carnations,
4,500 pink carnations, 8,500 yellow mums, 300 cattleya orchids, lentil,
dried oranges, sweet rice, coconum, cinnamon sticks, silverleaf, limes,
lunaria and ti leaves as it pierces through the clouds. The rocket fins
have 500 pink roses, strawflower, 300 Star roses and purple dendrobiums.
Whimsical birds frantically flap their wings as they scramble to get out
of the way. Flying off the front of the float, the panicked bird
sports a top knot of Bombay orchids and oncidiums. The body is peach carnation
petals with a bib of California peach-orange roses, and peach carnations
trimmed with purple statice and variegated purple carnation petals. The
back feathers are galax leaf blending to the tail feathers of purple statice
with tips of yellow gladiola petals. The wings are statice, peas, dried
marigolds, ti leaves, galax leaves, orange gladiola petals and carnations,
and yellow gladiola petals.
The second bird has a head of blue statice, breast of green anthuriums
inset with yellow carnations and wings of green anthuriums, yellow gladiola
petals, and feather tips of blue iris petals. His beak is popcorn.
Bird three wears a fresh floral orchid accent on his head of red
and white variegated carnation petals. His body is red and lipstick red
anthuriums. The wings are red tulip petals, red anthuriums, yellow-orange
gladiola petals with black seaweed and white butterfly orchids.
The bands of clouds are ground white sweet rice with a combination
of over 20,000 tulips, iris, roses, carnations, cattleya orchids, cauliflower
and China mums. Nestled in trails of blue iris and pink roses are over 50
floral arrangements of agapanthus, soft medium pink roses, blue delphiniums,
white anthuriums and white Hawaiian dendrobiums.
One of only 6 self-built floats, the float is completely designed, built
and decorated by volunteers who rely on donations and discounts from local
merchants.
The float design concept for "To The Future...At Full Throttle!" is by
Burbank resident Clark Jellison.
Local residents are encouraged to participate throughout the entire year
in the float building process.
